CLNHS History

The establishment of Camp Lapulapu National High School in Apas, Cebu City in the year 1994 was made possible through the efforts of Congressman Raul del Mar, Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Honorable Joy Augustus Young, DepEd Cebu City Superintendent Dr. Leonilo B. Oliva, Barangay Captain Clemente Rosales and Mrs. Pilar A. Tesaluna the first principal of Camp Lapulapu National High School.
When Congressman Raul del Mar called the Barangay Captains of North District of Cebu City for a gathering, he asked them what barangay needs the establishment of a barangay high school. Fortunately, Brgy. Capt. Clemente Rosales, the barangay captain of Apas, Cebu City proposed an area in the elementary school to be used in erecting the building for the high school. So, congressman Raul del Mar gave his approval and with the help of Mayor Tomas Osmeña and Honorable Joy Augustus Young, the establishment of the said secondary school was established. It was honorable Joy Augustus Young who gave the name Camp Lapulapu National High School.
Dr. Leonilo B. Oliva the Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent appointed Mrs. Pilar A. Tesaluna as officer in charge and be the one to prepare all the papers necessary for the establishment of the school. As this developed, by April of 1994 Mrs. Pilar A. Tesaluna begun accepting enrollees for school year 1994-1995.
During the opening of classes there were already eight sections in first year and still enrollment went up, until there were nine sections in first year day classes and night classes were also opened with one section in first year and one section in second year.
On its initial year there were sixteen teachers deployed with Mrs. Pilar A .Tesaluna as principal.
Under Mrs. Tesaluna, the school acquired one school building, thru the efforts of the Chairman on the Committee on Education of the Cebu City Council, Joy Augustus Young and of the City Government. After two successful years as principal, Mrs. Tesaluna was succeeded by Mrs. Matilde R. Mayonila, in the school year 1996-1997 as principal. The school once again acquired two additional buildings under her. This also manifest the increase of enrollment. On her second year, the school was able to obtain its nationalized status and the acquisition of additional teachers due to its increasing enrollment. The school grew progressively not just physically but even academically.
For the school year 1997-1998, Mrs. Matilde R. Mayonila was promoted as Education Supervisor for PHEM, thus, following her was Mrs. Ester Yase, from 1997-1999, it was during her time that the school again acquired one four story building. In January 1999 Mrs. Camila Guardo became the principal of Camp Lapulapu National High School from the school year 1999 to July 2001 and the first time the school had an assistant principal in the person of Mrs. Zenaida Gocotano where in she is still up to the present until Mrs. Juliana S. del Oste as principal starting July 2001.
The possibility of CLNHS is indeed a collaboration of tremendous effort exerted by so many people, aside from the local officials, with Brgy. Captain Clemente Rosales, the City Government with Honorable Joy Augustus Young, the DepEd and of course the PTCA, who have always extended their undying support.
In the school year 2001-2002 when Mrs. Juliana S. Del Oste succeeded Mrs. Camila U. Guardo as principal, the school acquired a commercial comfort rooms for boys and girls, this was a project of the PTCA officers.
In the summer of the year 2002 the school ground was cemented, this was through the efforts of the Brgy. Officials
The Audio Visual Room and the two computer rooms were allotted budget for repairs and renovation. There were repairs also made in the school library.
It was in the school year also that the Night Department separated from the Day Department with the principal, Mrs. Zenaida R. Gocotano.
This school was able to avail also of the implementation of the internet from the Ayala Foundation. This implementation was given free for its first year with the access of telephone and for the succeeding years the school has to pay but with discount.
In the school year 2002-2003 the shifting of classes was implemented to accommodate more students and to solve the problem of lack of classrooms. And now still during the management of Mrs. Juliana S. del Oste as principal the school acquired its school stage which is a self help project of the Cebu City Government and of the PTCA officers with the leadership of Mrs. Neonita Mayorga as president.

What makes Lady Gaga go gaga?

The hottest ticket in town is, you guessed it, Lady Gaga.

“Parang ginto,” said those manning Ticketnet, Ticketworld and the box-office of the Araneta Coliseum where Lady Gaga’s concert will be staged tonight, produced by Renen De Guia’s Ovation Productions.

The black market must be doing brisk business.

Am I watching the concert? No, I’m not. I already had the rare (once-in-a-blue moon but not really once-in-a-lifetime) chance of watching her “live” in concert in Singapore last June during the promo for her debut album The Fame (released locally by MCA Music, Inc.), plus an exclusive one-on-one to boot.

No, I’ve never been a fan of Lady Gaga and, in fact, I didn’t really know her very well before I flew to Singapore. But, yes, I was blown over by her electrifying performance, especially when she started playing the piano first when she was seated on a stool and then she stood on it and bent forward, with her soul-stirring playing uninterrupted. Practice, indeed, makes perfect. I would learn that, as a kid, Lady Gaga used to do that kind of “exhibition” at home, trained by her father.

I warn those who are watching the concert tonight to be prepared for a breath-taking performance since Lady Gaga does it “breathlessly,” running here and there, blowing kisses to the audience and, aside from singing, doing a dozen other things calculated to leave the expectedly heated-up audience to pant for more, more, more!

Off-stage, Lady Gaga (full name: Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) is just as breath-taking. She wears huge falls eyelashes that seem to occupy her whole face, a unique hairstyle and out-of-this-world clothes that remind you of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper (one of her role models) combined, although she frowns on being compared to Madonna whose stage act must have (subconsciously?) inspired Lady Gaga. She’s the hugging type, very warm and genuinely sincere and friendly (as we would say, totoong tao siya; walang halong kaplastikan).

After watching the concert and doing the one-on-one, I felt like I’ve known Lady Gaga for a long time. Yes, gaga talaga ang lady na ‘yan!

By the way, does she know what the word gaga means in Filippino?

“Yes,” she admitted, breaking into a wide gaga smile. “It means crazy, right?” And much more!

Lady Gaga and her entourage are arriving at 11 this morning and leaving tomorrow for Singapore.

Here are juicy reprints from my memorable one-on-one with her:

Is it true that you “hit” on an unnamed member of the Pussycat Dolls?

“I’m sorry but I don’t kiss and tell.”

Is “exhibitionist” the right adjective to describe you?

“No, I would say that the best way to describe me would be a ‘hot performance artist.’ But there is an exhibitionistic quality to the work that I do. It is an art exhibition in a pop-art-fashion-music technology. For example, when I do the ‘bubble installation,’ it has a very exhibitionistic quality. I give the audience bubbles.”

You have a very “unique” fashion sense. From whom and from where did you get it?

“From my mother. She always dressed up every day. She was a very stylish woman. I would sit on the toilet seat and watch her while she fixed her hair and applied her make-up. Then, when I was 18, I moved to downtown New York and that opened up a whole new fashion world for me. You know New York, it’s very stylish. The street fashion is a way of life. My clothes become an extension of myself, a part of my work and a part of who I am.”

How has fame changed you?

“I am very, very grateful for my success and I suppose it would be very easy for me to be jaded but I’m not. I’m having a great time. It has been amazing! You know, I travel the world, I meet all my fans who are beautiful and incredible. I’m so inspired that I keep on writing new music. It’s a dream come true. It has been a marvelous journey.”

Does money make you happy?

“No, not money but my music. Also, I should say that nothing is more important to me than my fans and nothing is less important to me than money.”

The whole world seems to be going gaga over Lady Gaga. So what makes Lady Gaga go gaga?

“My fans. I love my fans. They are the light of my life!”

All together now, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga, Gaga!!!

After Lady Gaga comes Chicago

Another great musical treat featuring a top foreign act is in store for local fans when Chicago, one of the longest-running and most successful US pop/rock ‘n roll groups, returns to Manila after nearly two decades for a live concert on Sept. 14 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The musical extravaganza from Ovation Productions will feature hit ballads like Questions 67 & 68; Beginnings; Make Me Smile; 25 or 6 to 4; Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is; Lowdown; Color My World; I’m A Man; Saturday In The Park; Dialogue; and Free.

Other hits to be sang by the band are Feeling Stronger Everyday; Just You And Me; I’ve Been Searchin’ So Long; Call On Me; Wishing You Were Here; Old Days; If You Leave Me Now; Baby, What A Big Surprise; Love Me Tomorrow; Hard Habit To Break; No Tell Lover; Look Away; and many more.

(Note: Tickets to Chicago Live In Manila! are priced at P4,700, P4,500, P3,500, P2,500, P1,000 and P500, and are available at Ticketnet outlets at all SM Department Stores. For inquiries and reservations, call Ticketnet at 911-5555 or Ovation Productions at 532-8883.)

Sophomores reigns for this time

A winning cheers and shouts of sophomores crowd the whole school as the judge announces their victory against the other year levels.
Seniors got shocked of their defeat from the sophomores. For this time, the sophomores emerged as the champion in cheerdance competition in many years trying to get the crown as the champions. Mrs. Emily Baranggot, as their coach astounded in the results and happy while saying in the microphone “repeat performance second year, bawi-on jud ni inyong pagkadaug,” “Wala jud ni’y pabor-pabor kay wala jud ko kaila sa mga judges….hahahaha,” she said jokingly. But the seniors on the other hand, are not happy about the results. They stepped in the stage after the announcement of winners to rise their complaint about the results. The judges explained calmly and confidently to the complainants about the results and also the guidelines for them to understand. The seniors wanted to see the scores but the judges refused and they said the scores are confidential. Even though the seniors complained, they have nothing to do with it because it was clearly stated in the guidelines that the judges decisions was final.

A Critique

After the announcement of winners on the disputed crown as the champion of cheerdance this year, I heard from one of these judges about his own critique on the performance on each year level. He said that for him the real cheerdance was performed by the seniors which he considers his own bet to win. Juniors performance was a semi-chherdance while the sophomores and freshmen’s performance was a dance interpretation only also known as the dance palabas not a cheerdance. He also added that he can identify the dance strokes if it is a cheerdance or not. Although his own critique about the year levels performance cannot affect the decisions of the other judges because majority or 3 other judges have the same bet to win which is the sophomores.
Here are the winners of the cheerdance competition.

CHAMPION - SOPHOMORES (2nd year) – Mrs. Emily Baranggot as their trainor
1st RUNNER UP - JUNIORS (3rd year) - Mr. Jori Manas as their trainor
2nd RUNNER UP - SENIORS (4th year) – Mr. Warren Abaquita and Ms. Jannis Vercide as their trainors
3rd RUNNER UP - FRESHMEN (1st year) – Mr. Edmond Ramirez as their trainor

Video coverage of the cheerdance in each year level performance will be uploaded soon and for the those students and alumni’s who witnessed the event and has taken any pictures and or video. You can share your pictures through photobucket http://photobucket.com/clnhsalumni . If it is a video you can send us your video link through friendster or in email (clnhsalumni@yahoo.com) so that we can post it at our blog and other alumni’s and students can see some insights of the event.

Cheers to all winners!

Corazon "Cory" Aquino (1933-2009)

It's a sad day in Philippine history...

Former President Corazon "Cory" Cojuangco Aquino passed away Saturday morning at 3:18a.m. after battling colon cancer for more than a year. She was 76.

“Faith is not simply a patience that passively suffers until the storm is past. Rather, it is a spirit that bears things - with resignations, yes, but above all, with blazing, serene hope.”

“I would rather die a meaningful death than to live a meaningless life.”

-Cory

May she rest in peace.
